We’ve designed our activities, tools, and resources based on the Spiral Model of Learning.

Spiral learning is a teaching method based on the premise that you learn more about a subject each time you review or encounter a topic.

Think back to when you first learned mathematics, you first had to learn your basic additions and subtractions before you could move on to more challenging math problems. Similarly, with anti-racist learning, you will need to ground yourself in the basics and fundamentals of anti-racist concepts before progressing to more complex and nuanced understandings of being actively anti-racist.

Each activity is designed with the spiral model in mind, and will prompt you to reflect on three questions:

  • What is going on?

  • How do we know?

  • Why does this matter?

As in all anti-racist work, the spiral is never complete – new learning always brings about new questions, ways of knowing and new opportunities.
